Photographer's Note
I would like to show you a few details of either replica, or parts of the Dutch sailing heritage. I begin with a detail of the Prins Willim.
The Prins Willim was built in Middelburg, Zeeland in 1649. It is the biggest ship that was ever build for the V.O.C (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie, United East Indian Company) in the 17th century. That was the company that stole all the goodies from our former colony Indonesia, then called Indie. The wealth of the 17th century in the Netherlands is thanks to the VOC, and the goodies form the colonies. The ship wrecked in a storm in 1662 at Madagascar, no one was saved.
The ship in that time were very richly decorated as you can see here. In the workshop area you will find the back of the ship, (Spiegel, mirror), and the bigger part of the detail.
The replica was built in 1985.

fantastic work, Rinie! see what i mean in the forum?
colors, textures are so vivid! there is a great diagonal leading the eye smoothly across the image.
for a second your image reminded me of old brazilian churches that had a great influence from the portuguese baroque era: wooden sculptures whimsicaly painted.
great work, congratulations!

Great detail of this carving, Rinie. The light is very nice and I love the colours and texture. I like the pov but I'd prefer a slightly different crop, tighter from the bottom of the shot and more room left above his head. Interesting to see the workshop views as well.

Picture is sharp and your composition is great. The colors that filled the frame is very artistic. Nice Work Rinie. I find the note useful too

Yo Rinie, lovely VOC one. I like the different textures and a bit toned down colours here. The angle of taking is very well chosen, dispaying the man in his lazyness and curiosity. The face in the RU corner is a nice detail too and indeed the diagonal is very well seen and gives this fine dynamics. Lovely series!
Have a nice day. Bert

This certainly is a fine shot with so many natural colours and absolutely perfect sharpness. A pleasure to the eye - and the idea of looking him in the eye when taking it was very good. That way you got a great title. The workshop helps to understand where this is one the ship. I wonder if you could have taken it any other way to avoid having to show the WS and get so close at the same time.

Or in the words of Al Pacino the title could have been, ˙ou looking at me? I really like the details of the ship more than the complete ship. or is it the textures that appeal to me.
Its very well seen and framed on your part but aslo a very nice carving from the original artist. He looks so relaxed.

Bonjour Rinie! :o)
Nicely framed picture - could have been less tight at top though.
But I totally agree that the image is extremely sharp and the colours are very fresh and vivid giving us all the details in perfection... Very well observed and achieved!

Exellent note, but what a grumpy gentleman ;o) He looks a bit down, or he might just be tired. From the thumbnail I thought it was a real person, good carving I guess...

I actually never saw a ship with so many decorations (and so complicated!)... And the whole shape of the ship is something we are totally unused to now, she is so tall above the water, it's incredible. I really wondered if this ship really sails (I understood from the posters on the quay that Prins Willem was actually used as an attraction park, but since all the text was in Dutch I'm not sure I got it right).
Anyway, as previously mentionned, your picture is really fine, well composed and with all the texture's details. You can see the layers of wood in the arm and leg. So much work!

Bonjour Rinie,
Ce cadrage serré, c'est un vrai bonheur. Cela nous permet d'admirer les détails de cette sculpture haute en couleurs.
L'angle de vue est amusant car le bonhomme semble s'adresser ŕ celui qui le regarde!
Bien fait,
Jean-Luc
