Extra Edition

At last: Winter in the Netherlands.

No more discussion about Covid.
But how can we organize to skate after 24 years a Covid safe Elfstedentocht (skating 200 km along the 11 Frisian cities)
Maybe..Only for the competition skaters, not a tour with more than 10,000 participants and not hundreds of thousands of spectators along the route?

This extra edition is especially for BEVB, who always enjoys the Robins in her garden.

Hello Rob,
Three nice photos of this very pretty little bird. It was a relief to see in the third photo that it finally found the food you had provided.
It is interesting to hear about a possible revival of the proud Dutch tradition of long distance skating. Will it be the last time before global warming makes natural skating completely obsolete?

Hello Rob,

My eyes went straight to your photograph, when I opened the gallery! Robins are the characters of the bird world!
They are cheeky, bossy, sweet, endearing and so very very handsome! I could watch them for ages, just assessing and enjoying their characters!

You have shown us three delightful photographs of this little cutie. He, though it could easily be a she, looks quite plump, probably the result fluffing up its plumage, like a portable duvet!

Lovely use of shallow dof, to make the robin stand out clearly against a fine bokeh.

Sad to learn about the problems with organising your annual skateathon. This awful disease has ruined so many wonderful events that are eagerly anticipated by so many people.
I have a feeling, when things return a little more to normal, that Covid vaccinations will become annual events, like flu vaccinations!

Hi Rob,very often photos of robins are associated with snowy days, where it is easier to see them when they are desperate for food. Someone has thought about giving it, as I see in the WS. Finally a big snowfall after so many years also in Holland, and obviously a great opportunity to take new photos directly from your own city. The quality is not exceptional but it was difficult to do better in this light and distance. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

The bird is well placed in the frame. The point of view is shwoing the details of the Robins. The light is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

Goedenavond Rob,

Ja Rob, wij zijn een leeftijd dat we meermaals de Elfstedentocht hebben weten rijden, ja zelf die van 62/63 was onze zoon nog maar een jaar oud, maar hebben die rijders toen afgezien.
Dit is een Nederlands hoogtepunt zeker een Fries en maar wachten tot ze op Dokkummervaart kwamen. Maar ik niet niet dat dit nog kan in deze moderne tijden, iedereen wil er zijn en onze mensen zijn niet meer voldoende gedisciplineerd.
Onze Belgische motorman en cameraman hebben de bewegende beelden gemaakt bij de laatste uitzending.
Sorry, het Roodborstje een van de agressiefste vogels in onze tuinen, samen met de merel.
Mooie foto, bedankt.

Beautiful trio of pictures of a Robin. Very sharp against simple blurry background. Maybe this one flew from Finland to avoid winter, and found out it didn't fly far enough.

Heb je gelijk even gezegd dat er hier op mijn balkon ook het e.e.a. voor hem hangt, al drie weken, maar op wat kraaien na heeft zich nog geen vogeltje gemeld. Mooie plaatje van dit schattige roodborstje tegen een mooie vage en deels besneeuwde achtergrond.

Hallo Rob,
Drie schattige foto's van het roodborstje in de winterse omgeving. Met zijn rode veren valt hij in de sneeuw nog meer op dan anders.
Ik weet dat Nederlanders nu uitkijken naar de Elfstedentocht maar ik dacht dat het koudefront niet echt lang zou blijven.
Of toch niet in België. Ik woon in het midden van het land en de nachten zijn koud maar overdag valt het nog wel mee. Vandaag hadden we echt een prachtige zonnige dag en in de namiddag geen vriestemperaturen meer. Wel koude wind komende vanuit het noorden.

In the news they said it was your biggest fall for many years so it was good that you took the chance for these photos. The main, macro, one is brilliant but I also love the one of the bird on the plant sticking out of the snow.

yes winter has arrived here at last, yesterday was a gorgeous day int eh sun and today looks as if it will be also. Our garden is also full with birds foraging for the food we set out. Deze roodborstje mooi vastgelegd

Great nature shot! This robin is a beautiful specimen, and your focus and presentation are perfect. I like the WS photos, too. We also have snow here, but it's become a dirty mess. The garbage is not being picked up regularly, so there are trash bags on top of the snow piles! I hope you're doing well. :-)
