Hunting Yellow Cars..., a photo from Zeeland, South

Photographer's Note

Because an ennoying back ache I was very disappointed not to be able to participate to the April Scavenger Hunt. But my husband got an idea and found back the box with a couple of hundred cars from his youth...

Maybe you'll think... "What are the TE points of this picture?"
Well, I can think of at least 3 interesting Dutch informations contained in this photo:

First, these are the kind of toys Dutch children used to play with from the fifties till now. 2nd & 3rd, there are two typical cars, very often seen on the roads of Holland in the past:

On the first row from bottom, 1st from left: the ONLY Dutch car ever manufactured in Holland, the Daf, model 750 (1961-'63), a small car with automatic transmission as standard equipment - [Toy made in Holland by Iron Car]

[Web Info: "The idea of Huub van Doorne was to build a small affordable "luxury" car, which should compete with the Citroën 2CV, the Renault 4CV and the Fiat Topolino. He wanted to equip the car with an automatic transmission because he liked his Buick Dynaflow with automatic transmission. Nice idea, and interesting note. But surely there were various incarnations of the wholey Dutch DAF until Volvo bought it in around 1975, and then I suppose you could say the 340/360 Volvos were also completely Dutch cars.

Hi Viviane, excellent,The cars are really beautiful and often played with, it looks very good! I like the diagonal composition of the picture very much, and to place the cars in the beams of sunlight, was a great idea. It really looks good, very nice compositon. HYour husband really had many cars, just to be able to pick 9! yellow ones. Very good note also!

I too thought of toy cars to submit for the hunt, but I'm glad I didn't try, because I would never have achieved it as well as you did! The blinds give the impression that they are on a fast highway. Well thought and executed. Bravo!

Chapeau! a composition sur ces ombres qui représentent les allées de circulation, en diagonale en plus, est tout ŕ fait géniale. Et toute cette recherche sur cette fameuse DAF, il faut le faire...
Comme Martine j'avais pensé ŕ utiliser des voitures jouets mais jamais je n'aurais pensé ŕ une telle présentation.

Je reconnais la 3čme voiture ŕ droite en haut c'est une "Grégroire" Voiture Française, la marque n'existe plus depuis 1955.
Bonne composition en jaune avec une lumičre latérale qui donne un trčs bel effet.

Great shot, Viviane. You had an excellent hunt, you broke the statistic - caught so many yellow cars in one frame ;-)
Excellent norw.
Since the scavenger hunt started, I can't find any yellow car, and I so hundreds of them on March..

What a nice pic Viviane ! Je vois que la petite voiture du mileu veut doubler ses copines, elle est légérement décentrée sur cette ombre qui est une trčs belle trouvaille. Cette image m'a fait oublier, le temps que je l'observe, que je n'aimais pas les voitures.

i first thought viviane is trying to cheat;-)) but as a matter of fact, this is such a great idea! and you were able to relate it to TE's philosophy ...so hats down for you viviane! my humble congratulations! ;-)) This is a great shot BTW composed around the rays of light to make the road for the little cars. which little boy has not tried to play or played (period!) with those toys??? huh
Creativity is what it all boils down to after all, whatever the means! ;-)

You found an excellent solution to the problem, Viviane. A nice diagonal composition in a very special light. And those yellow cars bring memories to most of us. As does the Daf, which I believe later merged with Volvo - a model of Daf was even built in my old hometown Kalmar. Some of these were used by the Swedish Postal Service, so they were definitely yellow!! Well done and a great note!

Hope your back is getting better. I have some problems with mine too, mainly from sitting at the computer.

Le seul petit detail que j'aurais aimé voir en plus c'est un cadre pour finalisé cette magnifique photographie. je suis pointileux , je sais mais faut bien que je trouve quelque chose ŕ dire car franchement , pour le reste c'est de l'excellent.
Trčs bonne idée de composition , mis en valeur de main de maitre.

Je croyais tout d'abord que c'était de la tôle ondulée...Quelle astuce me disais-je...Mais non c'est une illusion d'optique, je n'étais qu'abusé par ces stries d'ombre et de lumičre..
L'idée est trčs originale de męme que la composition..j'en reste encore baba..;-))

I must admit this is a very genius idea, Vivianne. Lovely composition lining up the cars along the diagonal shadows and lights. Very creative way of presenting this image. Well done, I love it!

Fine composition with the sun and shadow pattern as lanes. Good diagonal set up too.

The car division of DAF was later bought by Volvo and the Volvo 340 was a DAF design that came in the bargain. It also had the variomatic and as belt is called "rem" in Swedish and it was a Dutch car the nick name came naturally - they were called "Rembrandt".

Voila pour la voiture jaune on est servis ici avec cette belle presentation de petites voitures qui nous on fait passer de bon moment.
La presentation est jolies avec les diagonales qui forme la petites route.
Personellement moi j'adore cela me fait replonger dans une enfance que l'on a tendance a oublier.

Je l'avais ratée, celle-lŕ! Quelle brillante idée, Viviane! Et en plus, placer ces voitures sur des files parallčles, le tout en diagonale. Trčs belle composition, bien cadrée et avec un éclairage excellent. Et pour le dos... pas trop de voiture, mais de la marche et un peu de vélo.

Thought, imagination and expression - just what we need more of. Very nice to look at. Apart from the obvious theme here, the feeling of sun coming through the window and childhood memories is very nice.

I would have been tempted to crop a little off the top and bottom; increasing the left-to-right flow, and tightening your otherwise excellent ideas.

These Dinky Toys are worth a lot of money today if the right collecter wants them. They were tow shilling here in the fifties, a lot of money then!

Wow! I'm blown by this image...everything is picture perfect, the comosition, the lighting, the colors. The illusion of different widths created by the alternating bands of light and shadow is amazing! And the yellows of the cars is complemented well by the golden light.

Voici une idée trčs originale, et la composition est trčs réussie.
J'aime aussi particuličrement le fait que ces modčles soient abimés: la maquette, comme le modčle réel ont déjŕ une longue histoire.
Pour information, voici un site francophone supplémentaire sur les DAFs (j'en fais tourner une dans la région grenobloise).

Hoe kom je erop. Je hebt een rijkelijke fantasie,
een goede kijk en je weet het goed uit te voeren.
Heerlijk is om te zien dat je dankbaar gebruik
heb gemaakt van de schaduwlijnen. Met de verste
fantasie lijkt dit een beetje op een colone dat
de Paris Dakar rijdt.
