Photographer's Note

Another picture taken at the Utrecht University Library.

Previously I wrote about the architecture of this building. The building is huge and there's a lot of free, open space and voids inside the building as well. All the walls, both on the inside and the outside of the building, are black because supposedly that improves people's concentration and it makes them work harder. Regardsless of the dark colour of the walls, the building doesn't give you a crowded/claustrophobic feeling, the floors are white and there's a lot of light (also from the outside) in every spot of the building. A very enLIGHTing atmosphere, I must say.

In this picture I like the different 'layers' of life in and around this building. To focus more on these layers I cropped the image a little.

At the top of this picture you see off course the immense wall of books, it looks like these rows of books never ends (in reality it looks even more impressive then in this picture). You can also see one of the many shared study-spots. Another one of those spots can be seen in this photo I have posted earlier. As a matter of fact, the students you see working in my previous photo are sitting just besides the staircase you see here.

Utrecht University Library fact:
There are more then 4.2 million books in this library.
