Photographer's Note

A shot from my trip to Norway last year. It rained pretty much every day, but on the times the rain did stop, the landscape was so breathtaking that it was easy to photograph. I 'helped' gain the composition for this photograph by moving the branch into a more favourable position for the vertical shot. It was there already, so I figured twisting it around a bit wouldnt hurt much!

Ahhh... the secret confessions of photographers! There are probably a few people who won't like the idea that you moved an object in the photo, but it doesn't bother me. I've sometimes had to move things, or remove unwanted objects in processing (like wires), but I think that it's okay as long as the result is true to the experience you had in front of you when you were there.
This shot is certainly dramatic, with the looming mountains and dark clouds overhead. The view down through the water, to the rocks under the surface is great, and of course the branch adds a lot to the composition. Wonderful work!

A great shot Adam;

I seem to remember a similar shot you posted last year? You're right- worthy of another posting...
Did you use any type of lens or filter that enabled you to capture the rocks in the water so clearly? Very little if any reflection in the forground water... Very Impressive.

Well, you know what they say, everything is valid in war, love and photography... the branch add that touch of color to the image that otherwise would have been dominated by the gray palette. Well done!

There is even more important factor to this branch...The color of it. It brightens up this great photo.

Hello Adam,

Beautiful shot with a really amazing POV. I love the branch in the water that is so detailed and bright in colour. It was a great idea to position in your composition. The foreground rocks are also a great addition. The soft blue-greenish colour of the water is so beautiful leading us to the breathtaking mountain scenery in the background. I hope to visit Norway within the next 2 years! Wonderful work, Adam!

Hi Adam,This image is wonderful ,your work has inspired me for sometime.
I notice that you have taken images with the 20D and 5D.I am thinking of changing over to full frame from Nikon,it would be nice to know your thoughts on whether you think the 5d is worth spending the extra on or do you think the 20D is just as good?

So far this is one of my favorite pictures of yours. I love how you utilize the foreground in your compositions. Excellent idea pointing that branch toward the rock on the right. It directs the eye through you image.

Did you use any filters in this shot? How long was the exposure?
