Photographer's Note

The annual reindeer hunt is now finished in Forollhogna National Park for this year, as the hunting season is August 20 to September 20.

For some this is the highlight of the year, and there is always a long line of hopeful candidates but only a limited number is drawn out. And reindeer hunting is an expensive hobby I may add, as the largest animal will cost around USD 6-7.000…

From the north side there are three roads leading into the national park, all are narrow gravel roads that follow the landscape in curves up and down hills. 4x4 is advisable unless you prefer bike or motorbike.

The image shows the road through the South valley (Synnerdalen), that is a toll road of around 20 km length. The road was first opened in 1857, then for horse and carriage of course and it isn't much improved since then! The river runs side by side with the road all the way, and can offer small trout for your evening meal if you like!

And let me add, this last day of September was absolutely wonderful for a trip to the mountains, sun shining from a cloudless sky and a temperature around 20C but the fresh snow isn't far away as you can see…
