The Pilgrim trail to Nidaros (Trondheim) passes through Forollhogna National Park, from Os in Østerdalen to Singsås in Gauldalen.

The trail that passes through Forollhogna NP is the so-called East valley route that starts at Hammarõ by the northern side of Lake Vänern in Sweden.

This trail begins by following the beautiful Klaraälvsdalen and later Trysil river before it comes down to the Pilgrims' stone (dating to 1040) at Åkre in Rendalen. Further on the trail proceeds into the county of Sør-Trøndelag along the foot of Mt Forollhogna.

The stretch through the National Park is in a mountainous terrain with traces of paths from previous times. A few more days and you will see the spire of the Nidaros Cathedral which is the final destination, now as it was in medieval times and earlier...

For your information, the trail about follows the outline of the shade near the top of the background mountain, as trekking is easier above the tree line!

In the foreground is an old cottage that probably was used by hunters and fishers in the days long gone. Notice how well the cottage melts into the surroundings, opposite a more modern cabin not far away (see workshop)...
