Photographer's Note

After touring the Oslo Peace Museum’s exhibit about global warming; I was so depressed I went back to the ship for a nap. The music that night was a good antidote for depression. Herbie Hancock played a new version of Watermelon Man. It was inspired by Lionel Loueke’s piece called Seventeen, named for its rhythm of 17 beats per bar. Marcus Miller’s band provided back-up. Lionel was born in Benin, a small country of west Africa. His voice is even better than his playing. When he sings, it sounds like a whole choir.
