Photographer's Note

A visit to the Jewish quarter of Krakow is undoubtedly a must for those who go to this city. The scenery is completely different from the sparkling main square and the streets that surround it, full of shops and lights. This neighborhood is very unkempt, there are many traces of the Jewish past, including several sinagogues, and also interesting murals. The most photographed one is what I show you,A stencil of the iconic image of Gene Kelly singin' in the rain ("I'm happy again!") has graced this corner since spring of 2014.

Una visita al quartiere ebraico di Cracovia č senza dubbio un dovere per chi si reca in questa citta'. Lo scenario č completamente diverso dalla scintillante piazza principale e delle strade che la circondano,ricche di negozi e luci. Questo quartiere č decisamente trasandato,ci sono molte tracce del passato ebraico, tra cui diverse piccole sinagoghe, ed anche interessanti murales. Quello piů fotografato č quello che vi mostro,Uno stencil dell'immagine iconica di Gene Kelly che canta sotto la pioggia, che decora questo muro dalla primavera del 2014.

A great capture of this small part of the wall with so much to see. The old cracked wall itself, the orange bricks, the barred windows, the street sign and of course the mural. You got everything so well together in this composition. Very well done.

Hello Luciano,
While in Krakow I spent most of my time in the Kazimierz district, which I liked much better than the crowded Old town with all the famous buildings. I didn't see this fine wall painting. It must have been made shortly before my visit in early summer of 2014. I wish I had been there to see it being made. It's a really good painting, well placed as Gene Kelly clings to the drainpipe, and I really like the battered wall surrounding it. Your photo is well composed and perfectly clear and sharp.

The amusing drawing and the happy message are in a very strong contrast to the highly weathered wall.

The Kazimierz district is now a big attraction. You found an interesting detail. The dilapidated walls are in need of renovation but this picture looks joyful.
Interesting way to attach the antenna to the grid in the window. (It is a new addition since 2014).
Well noticed, nice presentation. The street name is Corpus Christi.

Walking through the Jewish quarter in Krarow, Luciano, is one piece of history for me: you might had been walking along places of my family ancestor's neighborhood from more than 100 years ago. It is the first thing thought about when reading the note.
Nice depiction of the "happy again" figure on the old walls.

A nice graffity, which reminds us of the famous musical number of Gene Kelly, somewhat deteriorated in that old wall, forms a curious set with the window and the bricks of the lower part, a bit of abandonment in the facade to which the painting puts a cheerful touch
A magnificent color that gives a lot of chromatic richness to the image.

Ciao Luciano For shure, the character painted on the wall is looking as much enthusiastic as Gene Kelly was in the musical-romantic comedy film of 1952 that was regarded as the best musical ever made! This is a photograph full of different textures which are almost palpable!
Though the textures show a certain neglect, their warmth and the inclusion of the happy figure of Gene Kelly create a contrast which makes viewers think hard about the photograph.
It's a fine, sharp example and one which I'm sure you took great delight in taking.

This is an area of the city I wish I spent more time in, but perhaps I will get an opportunity again some time. your choice of cut/compo is very effective. Its very effective because the main subjects are so upfront and easily observed. Glad you added in the orange/red brick along the bottom to give your shot some spice haha. fun shot. cheers

Una foto interessante del quartiere ebraico di Cracovia!
Era perché erano fuggiti tutti dal paese che le case erano state abbandonate?
In ogni caso, questo murale dŕ un po 'di balsamo al cuore. Senza dubbio gli ebrei avevano di nuovo qualcosa di cui rallegrarsi, poiché gli orrori della Shoah sembrano universalmente riconosciuti oggi.
Con contro, altri demoni rosicchiano il paese dall'interno! I polacchi hanno sofferto molto nel corso dei secoli e le cicatrici rimangono profonde.
