Wrocławskie krasnale - Wrocław’s dwarfs
The first statue of a dwarf in Wroclaw was created in 2001 as a tribute to the playful Orange Alternative resistance movement that was active in the 1980s.
From 2005 the city is inundated with smaller ones (20-30 cm) and at the moment there are more than 600 spread all over the city. There seem to be legal and illegal dwarfs.
A dwarf festival takes place in Wroclaw every September.
Nowadays the dwarfs considered a tourist attraction: You can combine sight-seeing in Wrocław with "Hunting for dwarfs". Special brochures are available with a map and mobile application software for smartphones.
Lars and I have photographed quite a few, but not nearly 600.
For some dwarfs of Lars you can link to www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Poland/photo1591055.htm
This time two pictures with de interaction between children and dwarfs and one with a collage of various dwarfs we found in the city.

Hi Rob,I remember very well these metal dwarfs to which Lars has dedicated a few posts. They are really cool and have become an attraction for children but certainly also for tourists and I read that a digital map for a dwarf hunt is also available. Three photos in which you show us beautiful examples of interaction between children and figurines, perfect quality as always. Have a nice week and thanks,Luciano

Hello Rob,
In my LP guide for Poland printed in 2012 the number of dwarfs in Wroclaw is said to be "over 150", so city people must have been busy the last several years adding new ones. I took a few photos but mainly of other persons taking photos of the dwarfs. I appreciate your photos more than my own. Children having fun are always more interesting than adult tourists. You show us two charming pictures of small people and even smaller sculptures and a fascinating collage of amusing 'gnomes'.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Rob, three lovely pictures, two of which show children interacting with the gnomes.
If the gnomes were not permanently secured, my guess is that some of them might be going to new homes!
The collage shows some wonderful examples, some of them quite witty. You created an excellent collage, way beyond my skills, I wouldn’t know how to begin to create that.
Having the gnomes around the city is a great way of introducing the many features of the city to visitors in a fun way.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Goedenavond Rob,
Het meer dan logisch dat kinderen daar even willen aankomen
Dit brozen beeldje is reeds behoorlijk geaaid de sporen zijn duidelijk.
Uw foto is heel goed geslaagd met de twee kinderen als model voor uw mooie foto.
Mooi foto werk, bedankt
Nog een prettige avond,
John

Hallo Rob,

Hello Rob,
Seeing your photographs made me consider that if I was not a member of TE, I would not be aware of these many dwarf statues or their annual Festival. We do learn lots of incidental facts as well as sharing an eclectic mix of fine photographs.
I love the idea of these fun sculptures inspiring children, to excite their imaginations. Your photographs reveal just how involved the children can become. Your montage of dwarfs gives us an impression of their variety.
However, I am disappointed that you were unable to visit and record all 600 examples ... I cannot judge which is the best! 😉
My warm regards, Bev 😊

Hi Rob,
You have captured well the action of the children. The point of view is showing the details of the dwaf toy. It is clear and sharp. have a nice day.

Hello Rob, I was in Wrocław many years ago (it was TE meeting but almost all friends left the site since then) and there were few dwarfs then. To see all 600 of them now is quite an ambitious task. Nice idea to make the city more attractive. Delightful scene.

Hi Rob,
having children interacting with this modern street art goes well with your favourite theme of people interacting with art.
Children are certainly the target audience of the dwarfs sculptures. They are usually terrible bored when walking through a city so these charming dwarfs may help to entertain them.
Great reportage,
M

Hi Rob
The title of the photo made me smile. Not only because it's in Polish but also because these little statues are my favourite attraction in Wroclaw. I've seen the ones Lars has posted and it's lovely to see another upload from you. I've got photos of some of these myself but some of the ones you and Lars have taken weren't even there when I last visited!
Great idea to combine these with little humans so we can appreciated the size! :-) I spent quite some time looking at your collage in WS, admiring dwarfs that are new to me.
Best wishes
Kasia
