Photographer's Note
It is funny that one of the most popular places in the east of Poland is Bar u Wolodzi, in a town of Hajnówka.
Some years ago the owner of the bar (soon we'll meet him) started to collect all soviet-era symbols and decorate with them the bar.
Today the place looks like an sort of living-musem. Even the guests try to fit the scenery with the way they dress.

Hi jerzy
If it wasn't because of that coca cola bottle on the table I would say you have taken this shot during communism era in the middle of 20s or 30s ! (with a digital camera :)!)
The colors are perfect. Ahh.. I like to be there sometime :)
Very nice Jerzy

Strange mix of times here, Jerzy, with the soviet icon, the boy looking modern and old at the same time. Lenin seems not to be very pleased but who really care. Thanks for share, If I ever go to your city I would like to visit this place.

What a wonderful scene. It looks like it was taken from a fifties album. The color tones, the dressing, the composition. It's all so scenic. I love it.

PS. Ani słowa o kuprach, bo mi zabiorą komputer.

The picture, with Lenin behind, is a lovely composition.

Bonjour mon ami Jerzy,

Hi Jerzy that shot is FANTASTIC!
the contrast between the coke and Lenin is strong and well took.
the guy dressed as a bohemien of late XIX century is fantastic.
it should be a very old image, except for the Coke bottle.
excellent colours, light and POV.
great shot.

Wow fantastic. As you know I'm fascinated by all this stuff, and there's a whole museum with it all arranged with some wit just over the border in Grutas park, which you probably know, and I've shown before (also on TL, since my wife features).
I really like this Lenin portrait as a backdrop here, and the guy playing cards looks suitbably from another era. Not just a great candid shot here, but, (as with all the best on TE) makes me want to go there.

Hi Jerzy,
Your photograph reminds me of "Good bye Lenin" movie. In former GDR the feeling you've captured is called "OSTalgia", meaning nostalgia for the good old eastern block days... We actually also have such kind of a pub in Leiden, it's called "Roebels". Its owner is also collecting the Soviet-era paraphernalia (posters etc.), and the pub has an image of Lenin from old Soviet one rouble banknote, drinking a cocktail, on its door.
And... the Cola bottle could have been there also in 20s-30s, they've had this bottle shape from the very beginning.
Absolutely marvellous image!
Greetings,
Alexander

Vladimir Mayakovski !!!! The burning pen of Bolshevik's revolution, having Coca-Cola??!! How could you betray the masses, Vladimir? Where is your proletarian soul? Where is your socialistic consciousness . Et tu Vladi? Sold your mind to bourgeois propaganda? Back stabbing the sacred ideas of communism!

Jerzy,
Superb work id love to have a beer in this place. Great use of the iconic Lenin painting and the modern day icon coca cola it really works especially as they are symbols of such polar opposite ideals. I love the gut in the shot dressed very bohemian really makes this shot. I just wish you could have included a bit more of the table i find it a bit tight at the bottom.
Cheers

Oh man, this is great... all Lenny needs now is a Big Mac!! The background is great, the colors, the subject, all of it. The guy upfrount is interesting too, with his coat draped over his shoulders like that, the hat, he is trying to look like he is from the 1930's but then has those silly rubber bracelets that all the cools kids wear now-a-days. Very interesting, indeed.

Hi Jerzy,
How ironic to see the bottle of Coke in front of Lenin. He and Marx were right - you can't fight the power of an idea...What a superb shot of this young man; I suppose jaunty would describe him. He has much character. Yet by virtue of the red and yellow armbands, he may have had a brush with illness such as cancer. As usual, your eye has spotted a great daily life scene and I am convinced you should do a photographic book on just such scenes. First rate and a joy to view, Jerzy.

Impressive perspective you have here Jerzy. The huge picture of Lenin dwarfs the card player. The Coke bottle in the centre reflects the change. The card player is dressed quite curiously. Everything here extremely effective to make this a super photograph.

Naprawde dobre zdjecie, oj dobre. Hi Jerzy,
a very funny shot, I like the way the "real" guy is wearing a Lenin style hat. Or should I say a "Lennon" style hat. In America they would say "they are all comunists". that's why the symbol of American imperialism, the "Coke" is so strange in this image, which makes it a truely great one.
