Father, Grandfather...
"What does it mean - these decorations on the graves?" - I asked her a day before the main ceremony of the Orthodox Christians Easter.
"Don't really know. My father did it, earlier on - my grandfather did the decorations, so I do it, too" was the reply.
Most beautiful thing I could imagine as the reason. Once again I was amazed with the simplicity and stright way of living of those Podlasie people.

That's really quite amusing. Brings to mind Francis' photo the other day 'Why do we do what we do'.

Ah yes, straightforward and practical, one of my main associations with Poles in general, and I've yet to visit Podlasie.

ANother fine perspective on daily life.

Good composition, Jerzy! I like the slight OOF here, that enable us to connect the subject to it's home, with combination with the corsses and it's dynamic act of tradition. That's maybe the best thing one can say about tradition - not always you have a good reason to do it except that your parents and their parents have done it before...

Hi Jerzy, excellent shot. fantastic saturated colours. the contrast between pink and the many tones of blue is amazing, as the focus and the contrast.

Nagle w dorosłym zyciu zaczynamy spoglądać za siebie, szukając własnych korzeni i tradycji z której wyrastają. Nagle okazuje się, że i my podobni jesteśmy roślinom i bez własnych korzeni nie potrafimy się odnaleźć w życiu. Spokojne foto, bardzo ładna kompozycja, dobry opis.

So, blue eh? This has to be your pp mastery at work:) I fond the colors so overwhelming, setting the mood so beautifully. This cold, heartless color, blue. It tells the story of grief and bautifully works with the composition.

Bonjour mon ami Jerzy,
Trčs intéressante photographie avec la note d'accompagnement. Les us et coutumes ont la vie dure et aprčs tout, cela me semble tout ŕ fait normal de continuer des gestes ancestraux.
Trčs bonne photographie de la vie d'un pays.

Beautifully blue and a gorgeous shot. The little motion in the arm is superb and the colours well just sublime. A great daily life shot.

Hi Jerzy. I am loving this blue, the blue hue in the background and the blue mood of the sorrowful grave site. Great movement too, while she is still, just her arm is slightly moving with the ribbon. Pozdrawiam.

Jerzy bonjour - intense shot - the feeling and the sadness are great when you look - great POV and fantastic movement of the pink ribbon on the blue tones - I love the little "photo" on the right -

Just now back from Burma, Jerzy, and I', checking in on my friends' work (Internet acces is pretty dodgy out there...)
Ince again a lovely, penetrating environmental portrait that realy tells a lot about Poland but with your unique touch. Fine stuff! LOve the "blue notes".
