Photographer's Note

What you see is the north easter tip of Madeira on a very stormy day in winter. It is called Ponta de SŃo Lourenšo - Canišal. In the background you can see the second biggest island of this archipelago - Porto Santo. It has a sheltered sandy bay and Christopher Columbus stopped there in order to prepare his ship and crew for the first trip to the Carribean. At the same time when I took this picture the mainland of Portugal was lost in a winterstrom with endless snowfall in places where summer is around all year long - usually.
