Serra da Estrela 1, a photo from Guarda, North

Photographer's Note

The highest point in Portugal (Continental), Serra da Estrela is the dominant point that splits the north and south of Portugal, revealing it's majesty against the lowlands surrounding. Serra da Estrela is a protected "Natural Park", and a great place for trekking, although in winter some caution must be taken.The Serra da Estrela is also famous for its wonderful cheese called "Queijo da Serra", as well as its smoked sausages.

This was taken in "Nave de Santo António", in a cold winter sunrise (my unprotected hands almost glued to the tripod). As the sun was rising, his yellow glow over the chapel, and the textures in the grass were too appealing for me not to photograph agains a clear winter sky.

This is a great photo from Serra da Estrela, capturing the sense of wilderness, peace and solitude that sometimes we can feal in that place. I know this house, but only from a distance. You did well to go down there and make this photo. The composition is lovely and well balanced. Great.

The landscape is beautiful and the photo is an excellent one. I particularly appreciate the sharpness and the colours.
Just a bad point: it seems that the left side (and the upper corner) is really darker than the rest of the picture.

Your capture of this beautiful lit scene is fantastic. You have placed the Chapel in the precise location to bring out the hierarchy of the total scene. The lighting of the winter morning is very crisp, as are the colors that are stamped in the photo.
