Photographer's Note
During my late evening walks in the old part of the city, I encountered some interesting places which in daily bright light were less attractive to my eye. This one, an equestrian statue of the knight, standing in front of the Porto Cathedral, I found it looking more distinguish and mysterious exactly as you see it in this frame. The shot was taken about 50 meters from the object.

Vimara Peres (820-873) was a Galician Christian duke of the 9th century in west Iberia. He was a vassal of the king of Asturias, Léon and Galicia, Alfonso III, and was sent to reconquer and secure from the Moors the area from the Minho River to the Douro River, including the city of Portus Cale, later Porto and Gaia, from where the name of Portugal emerged. In 868, count Vímara Peres was named Count of Portugal, after the reconquest of the region north of the Douro River. Portuguese historians view this event as the earliest milestone in the history of the state of Portugal, although Portugal did not achieve independence until the 12th century.

Hi Tomek,
This is a very interesting post ! As you say, night shots can make all the difference !
Very effective, black riding knight against the subdued illumination of the cathedral.
Thanks for sharing this not so usual entry of Porto.
Marie-Louise.

Indeed Tomek, this night shot is more dramatic than a bright day picture.
Nice effect, and managed well the silhouette of the knight on a horse statue.
Have a nice weekend,
Ike

Hi Tomek
another place that is very familiar to me :)
I've walked past this same statue many times. This is the first time I think i've seen this statue in this light, especially with the Church lit up in the darkness behind it. looks great, nice mood. cheers
