Photographer's Note
This year, it's FiESA 2011 - and it's the ninth time that the Algarve will have seen the exhibit that's become famous the world over.
Every year since 2003, Pera, in the Algarve, has hosted what is reputedly the biggest event of its kind in the whole universe! This year, however, it's starting earlier than usual - on April 15.
That means I've missed the opening - drat! - since I wasn't even in Portugal at the time. Ah, well - there are months and months left for it to run, so I'll get there sometime.
You do see, throughout the Algarve, the occasional on-beach display of sand sculpting - and very worthy some of it is...
But for scale and artistry, and breathtaking panoramas, it has to be FiESA 2011. Nothing else comes close to the level of skill on display within the roadside site near Alcantarilha.
Although I missed the inaugural event in 2003, I've remedied that since by visiting the exhibits every year, often more than once, since I enjoy seeing the expressions on the faces of my visitors when they get their first glimpse of a FiESA event.Hope you enjoy, Cheers Iain.

You have captured the fantastic detail in these 'sculptures' very effectively indeed. Perfectly framed with excellent light and very good tones.

Hi Lain,
For people who love sand art or sculpture, it is always a fare. As an enthusiast, I find this cut, a very clear take depicting the connect with ET. Lovely framing too.

Hello Iain,
I have seen this sort of thing in Mallorca in the past and it's very impressive. These artists really are exceptionally skilled.
You have captured this sculpture very well. The image is perfectly composed too with ET's magic glowing finger sitting bang on the lower right crossing point of thirds. Good colours, exposure and sharpness too.
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Iain. ET. Original in fact. This first-rate artists were at work. The red finger is a crucial feature - the real connection. A total nice one with a dash of humor.Well done. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Hi iain,
I was in Pera a few yoears ago but not in the right time - not in the time of these sand sculptures. Amazing view. And it is a pity that similar like the ice sculptures, they are so skilfully made but will not last long. Interesting as it is, I am amazed that you go there every year.
Warm regards

Queste manifestazioni da noi non ci sono ...ma le vedo in TV .
L'opera nei suoi particolari č impressionante .
Colori e nitidezza ed una ombreggiatura adeguata ...fanno risaltare le forme.
Ottimo lavoro
