Excellent Photograph, a photo from Lisboa, South

Photographer's Note

In Lisbon, near Marquęs do Pombal, we find this publicity with what I consider to be an excellent photograph...

Simply a beautiful model (I think it's a girl, a friend of mine insists it's a boy...) and a straightforward capture of her innocence, purity, youth, or whatever it is we see in children's portraits.

I leave you with this Excellent Photograph (the publicity, not my photo!) as I go away on holidays for three weeks. I might stop by TE once in a while...

Hello Peter

When I first saw the title of this photo I didn't get the photo on screen, I immediately thought "Oh what high hopes..."
But now as I see the photo I really changed my mind.
In many aspects the photo is perfect.
Powerful everyday scene, few elements to take the viewers attention away from the main targets that I guess is the couple and the big photo in the window.
Contrast looks excellent, good balance of black and white.
But what also strikes me in this photo is the almost subliminal message created by the lady looking into this window and thus also on the kid on the photo.
Maybe she has hopes for the future?

Excellent piece of work.

Very well captured! I like that the lady in the picture is looking at the ad. It shows you the power of a great photo!

Hola Peter, pienso que por ahí hay que empezar.... reconociendo y valorando una buena foto, como esta del nińo / nińa, que más da. Pero además tú la has conseguido dar tu punto de vista... tu toque personal, enmarcándola en un ambiente urbano con los transeúntes pasando por la calle y los reflejos de la ciudad en los cristales del escaparate, me parece un buen trabajo con buena calidad de contraste y definición, felicidades amigo y que tengas unas felices vacaciones.

I like this one very much. Now that I can see it in my lcd at home the contrast looks great. Everybody is praising the b&w and I like it too. I even recognize someone in the girl's white collar. :) Your pov is amazing. The little girl looking directly at us is a very striking element in the photo. And then you have the man looking also at us and the woman looking at the kid. And then you have their reflection... Great slice of daily life my friend.

Definitely a girl, Peter. And "an excellent photograph" as is. The passing of these people in front of the large image is telltale, with the woman looking up at her while the man probably at your Canon ;-)
Very nice conversion, too.

Im the guy who think that the model is a boy.
Instead of this non-interesting discussion, I think this photo is very nice. I like the extraordinary photo and the mirror effect that change the colour shapes of HIS face!
This publicity is from EDP, energy of portugal.
Maybe the visionary charateristic they want to show in this kid, is applyed for your photograph carrer. Have a nice holidays...

Um pormenor que eu gosto muito aqui é eles de măos dadas, a figura feminina a olhar para a criança (instinto maternal) e a figura masculina a controlar-te (segurança/protecçăo). Uma vez que a criança está a olhar para nós, o ciclo fecha-se.
Belo preto e branco com excelentes contrastes e apresentaçăo. Gosto de ver a imagem da cidade e...o LA lá atrás.
Espero que estejas a ter umas boas férias, apesar de a falta de verăo a sério năo estar a ajudar...ou talvez esteja, dependendo da perspectiva :)

you're right concerning the publicity photo. But your deserves photo also deserves the adjective :)
I find the couple's attitude very revealing also, with the woman getting attracted by the child (that maternal instinct) and the indifference of the man (that practical sense of men that can fall to the cynical sometimes).

This one is excellent, both are excellent, the picture you shot and yours.
Great BW turn, almost in designsoul style, perhaps a little bit too much contrasts.
But i love that one, kind of picture i'm trying to find when on shooting session :)

Hi Peter,
This is indeed a great photograph which was done by one of the vastly underrated commercial photographers. Commercial photography is a brutal business and the photographers have to create fabulous images like the smiling girl under tight deadlines and I have the utmost recpect for them! You created a great image of this outstanding commercial work of art and you caught the woman's glance perfectly. Excellent shot of everday life in a major city and also very observant of you to catch this. Superb photography, both by the commercial photographer and by you!!
