Photographer's Note

This is Graça Fortress or La Lippe Fortress, situated on Graça Mount, around 1 km far from Elvas. Considered a very powerful and original fortress, it was built in the 18th century, following the plans of Marshall Count Lippe, according to the orders of the Marquis of Pombal, as part of a plan to reorganize the Portuguese Army. 6000 men and 4000 animals have worked on the construction for thirty years.
Later it became a prison and now it's abandoned.
What we see here is part of the quadrangular shaped fortress and also the House of the Governor, at the top.
