And today I'm posting my last photo of the Blessing for now. Maybe I'll return to the theme after returning there this year.
Here, we see some of the Saints that are taken on procession to the field where the blessing takes place.
The "Blessing of the Animals" is a very ancient tradition that takes place every year, in May, in a small village of the Alentejo. On this day, usually a Saturday, most part of the inhabitants, adults and children, bring their animals to be blessed by the priest. Early in the morning there's a mass in the Parish Church, where people gather, and then people go on a procession to the fields, where the blessing takes place.
The children take their little pets: bunnies, chicks, kitten, birds or dogs to be blessed (I guess I even saw a Vietnamese pig there) and the adults take sheep, horses, cows.... It's surely one of the most interesting events I saw in the region lately.

A slice of life at the traditional religious ceremony and what an experience to have been so close. The lead is very colourful and good interest all round with excellent focus on the prominent. This is beautifully exposed, good viewpoint and a warm feeling to sum up the joyful event. Beautiful work, Congrats.

Another good impression of this ceremony. Both the sculpture and the beautiful flowers are well placed in the foreground, standing out so well from the trees and the cloudy sky.

Bonjour Ana,

Je trouve ces célébrations religieuses trčs folkloriques de nos jours et pourtant j'aimais beaucoup lorsque j'étais beaucoup plus jeune. Ici, le ciel contraste bien toutes les couleurs.

No people or animals here , but binteresting statue with corful fwers in the , contrasting with the darker trees and sky in the BG .

Hello Ana

I like your photograph: mainly as a documentary record of this ancient but still-surviving festival. However I can't help but feel that the saints - and indeed the flowers - are a bit kitschy and garish! Not a criticism of the photograph of course! And we must hope that such traditions will continue for a long time to come.
