A New Cathedral

Something quite different again. This is a brand new cathedral, which is currently being constructed in Bucharest. The People's Salvation Cathedral (Catedrala Mântuirii Neamului) or simply the National Cathedral (Catedrala Națională) is located right next to the enormous parliament building in the city. It will be the tallest (135 metres) and largest Eastern Orthodox church in the world. Construction began in 2010, the cathedral was consecrated in 2018 and the building will probably be completed in 2025.

Hej Lars,
Jag trodde att storhetsvansinnet hade försvunnit med Ceausescu, men tydligen inte. Det blir säkert en praktfull byggnad, och bilden är originell med ställningarna och den väldiga kranen, men finns det inte viktigare saker att lägga pengar pĺ? Jag kan inte pĺminna mig om att ha sett den här förut, sĺ du är förmodligen först pĺ TE. Har du ingen bild med kyrkan och parlamentet tillsammans?

even these structures around the church added a special feature to your compo. very well done for sure. curious as the new orthodox churches have ever traditional shapes, never modern ones.

we see old cathedrals abandoned which
new renovation...

Hi Lars,
I will make sure I don't go there until 2025 ha ha, It would be great to see the new cathedral after it is free of scaffolding and ready. The number of scaffolding levels tells us a lot about the scale of the structure. There must be a lot of believers in Romania I suppose.

Hello Lars,

This does surprise me!
At a time when many churches are being closed and reused, to see a cathedral of this magnitude being newly built is quite a shock!
We can certainly appreciate the size, with six domes visible, and though the surfaces of the walls is not evident, at the moment, the scaffolding does give its own textures.
