Photographer's Note

Unlike the interior, it is free to enter the grounds and take photos from the outside of Peles Castle, which was the former summer residence of the Romanian Royal family. Namely King Carol 1st whose full name was Karl Eitel Friedrich Zephyrinus Ludwig. His parents came from Prussia in Germany. The castle was constructed in German, French and Italian styles, and the interior is lavishly decorated, to say the least. The castle was built between 1873 and 1914. Romania became a republic in 1947. It was a suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire until 1878 when it won its war of independence.

Large parts of Romania were settled by Saxons, Prussians and other peoples from what is now Germany.
