Gondola Terminus, a photo from Prahova, East

Photographer's Note

A rare moment of sunshine in between clouds scudding across the top of the Bucegi Mountains overlooking Sinaia. The gondola terminus was a welcome sight as I was chilled to the bone and starting to suffer altitude sickness from the sudden rise in elevation from 880 metres up to 2384 metres. They sold sort of hot coffee too. (warm but not hot). I was glad to start heading back down to the town.

Bonsoir Chris,

L'étendue de la région montagneuse donne de la profondeur ŕ l'image. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails du chalet et des montagnes. La bonne luminosité met en valeur la beauté des couleurs. Bonne soirée.

Hello Chris,
nice the view of the plateau with the gondola terminus to be the main attraction of the scene.The red snowplow on the foreground and the construction on the backdrop with the red roof complete perfect the whole scenery and at the same time create contrast in the image.

Alltough these kind of alpine stations provide for a sorry sight once the snow starts to melt, I can well imagine your relief at seeing the station after a walk at that attitude. Great catch with the red ratrak being the main focus here.

Taken well this rare moment of sunshine.
The red snow-tractor and red roof-tile stand out great contrast to the white blanket over the summit.
Not much snow for skiing, I reckon, but I am not an expert for this matter.

The trials and tribulations we photographers put ourselves through:-) But, worth it for this excellent capture. The snowcat makes an interesting juxtaposition with similarly coloured gondola station in a well balanced composition. I like the lights and colours and the superb depth.

Hello Chris,

You sound to have had a bad time at the top of these mountains! Altitude sickness can be a real problem!

Anyway, there was some good in that you were able to capture this fine shot.
The triangle of features is nice compositionally, whilst the reds draw them all together.
You have achieved an amazing sense of depth, helped by the snow-plough anchoring the f/g.

Panoramic pride with the tops of these snow-capped mountains, the scenery is splendid and the end of the cableway good place to take a hot coffee before going down the valley.
An image to enjoy with its beautiful colorful, very bright and perfect clarity.

how lucky you were at this superb vantage point that rare moment when the sun shone and produced so lovely lighting variations, colours and moods. The details and textures are stunning, I like the contrast between the near and far landscapes. I also like how they are separated by a strong diagonal and how the buildings stand on it. Hello Chris,
This is a fine view from the top of the mountain. I like the bright colors of the red roof and the stranded snow equipment rising from the snow. I understand what you mean by altitude sickness, last time I was at Pikes Peak in Colorado, I had to move very slowly to avoid falling over.
