Photographer's Note

The Skocjan Caves or Skocjanske jame are a slovenian cave system approx. 20 kms east of Trieste, Italy.
The system with 6 km length and a height difference of 205 m is too difficult to describe it here.
Martelova dvorana, its biggest hall, is 308 m long, 123 m wide and up to 146 m high, but is not a part of the 105 min visiting tour.
We see here the village of Skocjan with its parish church above the two dolines of Reka river. Reka flows under the village, comes to the surface again in both dolines and then disappears in the bigger part of the cave system below the photographer's feet. The left arch separates greater from smaller doline (in the background).
@Royaldevon: There is evidence that the caves were inhabited since the Middle Stone Age.
Taken on slide film with Canon A1, professionally digitalized.
