Bled - Lake, island, churches and castle

The most famous attraction for visitors of Slovenia is Lake Bled, a glacial lake in the Julian Alps.

Many pictures of Bled have been posted already on TE and as many of them this pic shows the lake, the small island in it with the Assuption of Mary Pilgrimage Church, the Bled Castle high on the rock and the parish church at the right side.

The lake was formed after the recession of the Bohinj glacier. It is up to 2.120 m long and up to 1380 m wide, its maximum depth being 30,6 m and tectonic in origin.
After the last Ice Age, the Bohinj glacier deepened the natural tectonic hollow and gave into its present form. The basin was filled with water when the ice melted.
The lake has no large natural tributaries; it is fed only by a few springs.

This is a great shot of this beautiful place. The church and castle are nicely highlighted by the grayed background. The overhanging tress frame the scene nicely. The kayaker adds life to the scene. The lighting and colors are fine as is the photo's sharpness.

in this photo there is one more interesting subject you didn't mention in the title - Mountains!
They create very nice contrast with the blue lake and green island. For me a great background is an important addition.

Hello Paul, Captivating picture of the structures and the glistening blue waters of the lake. The mountain serves as an exellent background for the shot with the few tree branches in the foreground serving as a bit of a frame for your picture. Delightful view of this area. What a wonderful and colourful composition!
This place is really magic and charming: a lke surrounded by impressing mountains and with an island in it! The beauty of nature go together with the beauty of architecture. You captured it in a very good hour with a splendid light which gave you very bright and vibrant colours. The red canoe is a very nice focal point.

Nice framing of the view to this picturesque island with the church!
And the castle in the background has a no less dramatic location, probably very difficult to conquer back then...
A real postcard with the snow-capped mountains in the back, and the composition has a fine feeling of depth!

I went there 20 years ago and still remember how attractive the island is and walking round the lake. I like the balance between the building and how you used the branches to frame the scene nicely and draw the eye to the prettiliy lit island. Agreable presence of the kayakers.

Oh yes, Bled! one place that I have actually seen in Slovenia - and quite a nice place, I remember it very good - this quiet lake, and the island, and all the nice things there...

wow this is an amazing POV. I like how you have frames the famous view. Pleasantly saturated colors. The white areas lost some details but I see it is a bot older photo.
The kayak adds some more life as well.

I have focused on the southern part of Croatia plus Montenegro and Bosnia this time but I suppose I need at certain point to visit as well the northern Croatia and the Slovenia on that chance.
