Photographer's Note
Stockholm is the place to be for big ships. All sizes everywhere you look. Many with the old wood finish and tall sails. A wonderful life for those who have a special boat to share with friends. It was a beautiful day for craft of all sizes. What a super wonderful place to live. drt100

Hello David,
I don't know or you had the possibility, for the mast completely to photographing.
When you photographing sail boats is usual that also the mast is completely, not the boat but the mast, this is a small advice David.
Notwithstanding is your picture attractive with the small boat in foreground
You chose a very well angle this cares for nice depth and perspective.
Excellent quality, lovely presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.
Kind regards,
John

Hello David,
I cannot resist boats!
You are presenting an excellently composed image with the wooden sailing boat in diagonal giving dynamism to the picture. Good depth of field too. The gentle colors are really very pleasant. My compliments!
Warm regards

Hi David,
What a lovely scene you have captured here of the old wooden boat in the harbour. I think boats are a lovely subject to take shots off. They are so colourful and interesting. Good POV with the boat in the fg looking across what seems to be a very busy harbour to the town in the background.
Have a nice day
Regards
Arthur.

Hello David,
You have presented us with an interesting note and a delightful photograph.
I note John's (jhm) comments. He is, of course, an immensely experienced photographer and his own photographs are always stunning but, on the other hand, photography is like any other form of art and its appreciation is so very subjective. For instance, Beethoven is one of my heroes but you might detest his music. But neither you nor I is wrong. As a famous man from your country said, "..but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”! And he, of course, was simply quoting the poet, John Lydgate.
Yes, I agree: it is nice to include the masts of boats but, as you so rightly say, when you try to do so, the remainder of the subjects in the frame become miniscule because the masts of most sailing boats are so very tall.
In this case, I feel that you have compromised very well indeed. The most important thing is that the composition is pleasing and all the elements in the frame sit nicely together. We see the "main" parts of the large boat and its mast, although we do not see it in its entirety, is perfectly placed on the left vertical dividing line of "Thirds". The smaller boat complements the larger one and both are nicely balanced by the wooden structure off to the right. The distant view is delightful and, of course, the two boats are pointing that way, directing our line of sight toward the line of fine buildings.
Well, that's my opinion anyway - for what it's worth!
Technically excellent too with spot-on exposure, lovely colours, and exquisite depth of field and sharpness.
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello David,
you've made excellent use of the vertical frame and distributed a lot of attractive perspectives and several lovely focal points in it. I love the imposing distant waterfront and the dark textured sea as backdrop to the elegant boats. There's a wonderful sense of depth and fine clarity. The light, the colours and the atmosphere are very pleasing. You've managed the contrasts superbly and each colour in this intricate view has preserved its essential quality. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

Hello David!
I know this place very well, and, strangely, not many tourists go there to admire the city from this particular point of view.
Very well chosen POV and, as usual, an interesting composition, and a little story to tell in the photo :)
I especially love the warm colours of the boats in contrast with the blue water.
warm regards,
Elena
PS. I replied to your critique to one of my latest photos :)
