Photographer's Note
A cold January afternoon in Stockholm, the sun is getting low and shines on my favorite ship. I spent a lot of summer holidays in Stockholm as a child and this ship was so fascinating for a kid. But I had no idea it could look like this in the winter.
The ship "af Chapman" is since many years used as a youth hostel together with one of the buildings behind. It is anchored at "Skeppsholmen" which is one of the smaller islands that form Stockholm. The picture is taken from "Skeppsbron" which is the harbour of "Gamla stan = Old town" on the salt water side. Gamla stan is also on an island that is situated in the middle of the outlet from lake Mälaren, the sweetwater lake west of Stockholm.

You seem to have caught a perfect opening in the clouds since the sky looks overcast and the ground in front of you is shaded (could of course be a building). The soft winter light is beautiful and gives a romantic touch to the picture and also works well with the warm colors of the buildings and the creamy color of the boat. The shining cross on the top of one of the buildings is a nice little detail. The picture's a little noisy though.

Great that dark sky, dark water and the white ship. Great colours to. Very good work.

I like very much the coloursetting. It always creates a good effect when the sun shines on a object this way while the dark clouds makes the background.

For a cold January afternoon there is much warmth bouncing back from the Chapman and the background buildings. You caught the sun's rays just at the right moment to create a wonderful "ambiance".Those talls ship are a beautiful sight to see when under full sail...many of them came to Quebec City in 1984 for the Tall Ships Festival.

Hm, i'v never noticed af Chapman when being to Stockholm. I'll have to take a closer look the next time. Looks like a fine ship. I like the comination of the warm afternoon light and the overcast sky. The warm light goes well with teh buildings in teh background. You picked the right time during teh day to take this photo Ebbe.

Colors of the background are really pleasing, mostly the contrats between the cold colors of the threatening sky the warm lit colors of the boat and houses.
However the boat really needs to be vertically off centered : I also agree that the foreground is not up to the rest of the pic, this is really disturbing. Def crop it, you'll get a better picture!

Magnificent picture of this ship. The colours are so contrasted that it give a extraordinary atmosphere.

You captured this shot perfectly, Ebbe, with the ship and its masts being the brightest colours in the composition. A nice rippled reflection too. I also like the different colours and architectural styles of the three buildings. Well done.

Who can resist the nice winter late afternoon sun ! It transforms everything into jewels. This boat seems really nice and it really stands out well against the dark sky and those three buildings. Good capture. I think Ebbe's WS is just the final touch that really transforms this superb photo in a work of art.

This is great, Ebbe. A very moody capture of the afternoon light, and the dark cloudy sky towering atop this pretty scene. Wonderful colors, and great reflection on the water. I have to admit I prefer your original version with the foreground. I don't think every composition needs to be off-centered just for the sake of it.

Lovely photo. I like how the light catches the ship and the roofs of the buildings, making them stand out against the dark sky.

Really stunning colors. Although an off-centered boat would be okay, this also is okay. The position of the boat creates a sense of balance and stability to this very beautiful scenery.

This one is outstanding for its luminosity Ebbe! About the composition, I prefer luko's WS version. Nice and sharp reflexions.

Powerful shot, Ebbe, but something is disturbing me. I had a hard time trying to figure what. Then I saw Luko's workshop and understood, that what I didn't like was the (too dark) foreground. Otherwise I like the contrast between the dark sky and the warm colors on the boat and the buildings.
And I find the position of the boat OK. Nice reflexions.

Wonderful light! The foreground doesn't disturb me too much, even if it does look as though it's moonlit. Luko's workshop is good, too.

Lovely shot Ebbe! I most like the colours and the light. But I think Luko was right about the cropping in his WS. I used it and ran it through NeatImage to get rid of the noises, but I'm not sure... Maybe too smooth?
[Oops! I'm over the WS-day-limits, I'll send it to-morrow...]
PS: It must be at least 40 years functionning as an hotel because I remember my mother-in-law telling me she has stayed there when visiting Stockholm for a Gymnastic Meeting in the sixties...

Good one Ebbe - i like the colours in the boat and this picture shows that even the dullest days can produce great images - you were lucky to get the light falling like that!
I do feel the picture would be better balanced without so much foreground

Amazing capture Ebbe - It surely deserves a comment - The condition with dark sky and strong sunlight reminds me of a shot of mine :-) The main motif simply lovely and the reflections doubles the effect - even its not a perfect mirror - very fine work Ebbe.
