Photographer's Note

As I was walking north on the outskirt of Gamla stan, Stockholm's Old Town, last month I stopped to take a good look into every narrow side alley to see if any of them would offer a photo opportunity.

I thought this had a reasonable combination of nice buildings and liveliness. It is called Kĺkbrinken, a strange name which according to specialists probably refers to a scaffold and pillory once placed on Stortorget, Grand Square, slightly uphill from here. 'Brink' means a short slope (-en = the)

The oldest known document where Kĺkbrinken was mentioned (quite differently spelled) is from 1447.

I was walking along Lilla Nygatan (Little New Street, created as recently as the 17th century after a big fire). Click at Map: view to find this place.
