Photographer's Note

Everything is frozen in Ice Hotel, even the church where the marriages take place. I keep returning to this subject (marriage), because it made me a great impression that people go to the "end of the world" to get married. Isn't it contadictory that some couples choose to give vows of eternal love in an ephemeral environment?

Looks more like a morgue to me. As for the seeming contradiction, many things about marriage are ephemeral my friend. It's the state to which you converge that counts, and that convergence happens pretty fast. Excellent photo, esp. the colors. I'm impressed by your handholding ability. How does it look enlarged?

Όπως λένε στην φωτογραφική γλώσσα, πηγαίνουν να παγώσουν τισ καλύτερες στιγμές της κοινής ζωής τους μάλλον. -¨)
Και μετά από έναν παγωμένο Ησαια τρέχουν για κουκούλωμα στα παγοδωμάτια και άντε να ζεσταθούν εκεί, ωραία ι΄δεα θα το έχω στα υπόψιν μου.

Amazing! the 1/4s handheld is amazing. The place itself is amazing and the fact that people go all this way to get married here is amazing. Well, it raises the question why did you go all this way from your warm, sunbathed and beautiful Greece to such a dim and cold place. Planning on getting married too? I never would be able to get this shot. The cold wouldn't allow me to stand still not even for a 1/60s shot.

Hello dear Hercules,
My dear friend, my dear neighbour.
Great capture,wonderfull colors and something I did't know before haveing seen this capture.
I had untill now many exhibitions, but most probably in the next autumn I'll open a retrospective exhibition with only b&w images to celebrate my 50th aniversary in photography.
Of course I'll let you know. Who knows, it's only a one hour flight from Athens to İstanbul.

curiosa iglesia, debe hacer frío aquí, żno?
Vaya pulso tienes, ese 1/4 seg sin trípode tiene mérito, porque la imagen ha quedado estable y bien definida. Y la luz está perfectamente controlada, has conseguido un gran equilibrio entre las zonas claras y las zonas oscuras, con una exposición correcta.
Me gustan esos tonos azules claros en el hielo.

Is this a church? When i look at it again, i can see the remarks of the holy architecture, but actually first time i saw it, i thought of a dorm :)
Perfect symmetry and magic light as in your previous "hotel end of the world" photos dominate this weird atmosphere. Illumination is well designed and you made really good use of it. Figures add a lot to the humane touch and movement, as well as clarity and transparency look perfect. TFS,

you obviously just have marriage on the mind. ;) However, I thank you very much for that as I've always wanted to see the Ice Hotel and it's church. It looks very beautiful. I think if I were a bride I wouldn't mind getting married there. You certainly wouldn't have to worry about losing weight for your photos... you'd be covered in so many layers no one would notice! The shot itself is very nice. It's a shame you did not get a photo with a couple getting married at the alter. TFS!

Es paradójico, sí. Pero si se divorcian, al menos no quedarán cosas que les recuerden a su amor fallido. A mi lo que me parece esta foto es una escena de "Star wars", hast los tipos van vestidos como si fueran del planeta helado que salía al principio de "The empire strikes back". Bueno chaval, me gusta esta foto, aunque dónde están tus fotos mediterráneas que se quite este homenaje al hielo.

Wonderful atmospheric shot. This seems like another world, in a "science-fiction" sort of way. The faceless, heavily garbed people, hooded and well blanketed in this icy environment, lend a surreal atmosphere here. This really succeeds in showing me what the Ice Hotel is all about. Very interesting and well-executed in every way.

Your series with the Ice Hotel has been an illuminating experience for me. The guests, seen in silhouette, appear frozen (are they real?). The perspective and composition, the light and shadows, and the colors and definition -- all serve in concert to produce a memorable shot.

Oh, my word. What a magical looking place. It is like a scene from one of the StarTreks. Those vaulted ceilings of ice, the wondrous lighting, the intricate carvings in the walls, fur draped pews(?) and those exotic looking fellows in the fur trimmed hats. This is one of the most astonishing things I have ever seen. I am just in awe. I mean... I am like - speechless. My most sincere congratulations on such an incredibly beautiful shot.
