Photographer's Note

This was a magical day at Christmastime in 2004. It was a brilliantly sunny day. There was over a foot (30cm) of new snow on the ground and everybody was walking around enjoying the sunshine. You can almost feel the crisp cold air in the picture. My wife got to wear her fur coat and I got to play with my then new Casio Exilim EX-S3, a 3.2 megapixel camera which on that day was producing nothing but perfect little pictures.

When I took this shot, the tunnel drew me in to its spell as the newly fallen snow crunched underfoot with a delightful crackle that is inimitable.

Klosters is a winter resort poised in a valley with steep hills on two sides, and two valleys on two other sides, one of which leads to Davos, famous for its ice hockey tournament, the Spengler Cup, but even more famous for the Davos Simposium of the G8 member nations, the world's (arguably) most powerful eight countries.

Klosters is most renowned for having been the winter resort of choice for Prince Charles, Princess Diana, the Duchess of York (a.k.a. Fergie, Sarah Ferguson) and various other fractions and splinters off the royal block.

The Chesa Grischuna hotel in the centre of Klosters is one my famous places for having a hot chocolate on the terrace in the winter sun...
