Two Laufenburgs, a photo from Aargau, West

Photographer's Note

Laufenburg is a beautiful little old town by a narrow curve of the river Rhine. Laufenburg was first mentioned in historic documents in 1207. This Swiss municipality shares history with the German town of Laufenburg on the northern side of the river, where this photo was taken. The two Laufenburgs were separated in 1802 when region south of the river was joined to Helvetic Republic.

I made a mistake. The town you see is the German side. Only background and the tree foliage on the right are on the Swiss side.

Hello Kari,
It's a very charming and colourful postcard of an idyllic and prosperous town with well maintained houses and a fine location by the river. Part of the charm is in the fact that there are still European borders that are not guarded by barbed wire, water cannons and angry dogs. The composition, light and colours of this photo are all very appealing.

Hello Kari, Interesting note about two Laufenburgs. Now when there are no borders, it is probably something like one town. Beautiful picture with nice houses and charming bridge.

glad you posted this one. again, hard to believe the town is so old, imagine the history here.

another border town, so quaint, so charming, so picturesque.
Easy to see why you'd want to shoot this scene from this pov.

lots of pastel colours, elegant architecture, wide span bridge too. lots to like with this one. looks great.

Hello Kari,

Reminds me a little of Verona in Italy. Good pastel colours with excellent sharpness. The tightly clustered houses on the left contrast with the wooded riverbank at right. Tfs!
