Photographer's Note

Here is a quick shot of a normal Sunday stroll along the river Rhine in my hometown in Basel. Starting at St. Johannspark just opposite chemical multinational Novartis headquarters one can stroll down along the river, crossing the border in to France after a mere km, walking along the river for a further 2 km one comes to the "Dreiländerbrücke", the worlds longest single span pedestrian bridge, spanning the river Rhine and crossing over to Germany from where can walk back along the river back to Switzerland.
In this picture we are standing in France, the buildings on the far bank belong to Novartis and are located in Switzerland, while the yellow building just visible on the left is in Germany. For the locals this is just normal and one tends to forget in what country one is at the moment.
There are around 30'000 french and 10'000 germans crossing the border in to Switzerland every day for work, while the Swiss cross over to Germany either for cheap shopping or enjoying the black forest or crossing to France to enjoy the French savoir vivre and the many delicacies of the Alsace region or the fine asparagus and wines in both countries.
