Photographer's Note

I went to Kiev between Christmas and the New Year. I did not see a single ray of sunlight in the four days I spent there, so the best time for photography was dusk, when the washed out sky turned blue before turning black. This is the statue of Vladimir the Great dominating the Dniepr river. Vladimir converted Rus to orthodoxy in 988 in Kiev.

Hello Jeremy,
great photograph taken from a very interesting point of view. I like the contrast between the illuminated statue and the city emerging from the darkness and smog deep belowe its feet. Vladimir the Great seems to be still guarding its city over all those centuries. Good job.

Well, actually he is Vladimir the Saint, isn't it? It was his title, Great Prince, meaning High King, Prince over Princes.
But he was a big guy, no doubt.

It's very good photo, deep blue colors and bright statue of ancient Prince. I always loved our ancient history, especially these early times.
