Photographer's Note

Taken last summer, one evening in Ambleside.

This was an unusually quiet evening, so spotting a rare parking place I stopped to 'take the air', only to be rewarded with the equally unusual sight of this steam boat leaving the quay.

Arlette, for all its old-fashioned power unit, was only built in 1997, and is usually to be seen on the River Thames, so the web informs me. I was lucky then to see her here, 300 miles further north. Other information here

I note, after the event, ( alas, I cant claim it was planned ) that the picture shows all three forms of motive power, hand, sail and mechanical. I had felt miffed the sail boat was in the way, but take solace from this coincidence.
