Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Last Sunday, I went for a long walk. The sky was dull and overcast but some of the views more than compensated for the lack of sunshine.
This very old farmhouse, on the edge of the village, is imposing from its position and attractive because of its local-stone walls, its architectural details and surrounding gardens.
The curving road makes an attractive approach, showing off the 'T' shaped construction of the building. The buildings beyond the main one are small cottages, presumably for use by the farm workers when this was a working farm.
The adjacent field, used for sheep, has had an influx of moles which can be evidenced by the soil heaps on the left. I can remember times when moles were killed and their carcases hung on the fence, as evidence, for payment.
Many thanks for your interest.
Please feel free to feedback on any aspect of the photograph. :-) Bev

Beverley,
This is a well composed shot using the fence and road to lead the eye into the shot. The overcast sky helps set a mood for the shot. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF.

Hi Beverley,
The deficiency of the sunlight increases the romanticism of the photo only. The composition and a depth are superb, the details are beautiful. Charming atmosphere of this picturesque place. Have a nice day!

Hello Beverley!
Very nice composition, with a certain mysterious mood (maybe because of the weather, maybe because of the building and bare trees??!!). Adequate sharpness, excellent exposure, very well chosen pov! Colors are natural and beautiful! I really like this one! TFS - Congratulations!
Best regards,

Hello Bev,
A fine composition with good point of view. The graphic lines of the fence make perfect lead lines towards the imposing old farmhouse. Not the best weather but the sky nevertheless has some interesting detail it. Besides, I like the soft natural tones. Excellent sharpness throughout.

Hi Bev,
Interesting swerving line towards the house. The sky is dull, but realistic (sad but true), and doesn't take away the very English countryside charm. Wonderful for walks, indeed.

Bev, fine capture here, this one to me seems so typically England, I just love it. It has that cool damp weather beaten feel to it, longevity in the face of adversity, it is great.

Hello Bev,
a you a big "triangle" wedge here, Graffer will be pleased with you. No need for him to point it out in a workshop though as ts fairly obvious. The wintery light here seems to echo the dull colours.

What a beautiful photo from the English countryside! I really like this composition and that old farmhouse.
But as you said, the sky is a bit overcast. So, I did a workshop for you.

Hi Bev,
I love this old wooden fence and how you have us looking up at the stately old farmhouse from the narrow road.
The dormant trees look like they are about to burst into thick buds in a short time.
Love the bits of blue peaking through the gray sky.

hi Beverley,
I'd be lost, grumpy and cold on a day like this, and for sure unable to see anything worth photographing. but you prove that I'd be wrong and that every place offers something beautiful, you just have know how to look.
I like a lot the subtle and calm beauty of this shot, makes me re-read something from Austin or Brontë sisters :) the fence and road on the right work very well as a natural frame and lead-in line, and the moss-green lawn is exactly how I remember England in early spring. miss it quite a bit, actually.
best,
Kristine

Hello Beverley,
maybe no sun - but a very good composition and a good "sunless" mood of the day :) This is also part of life and Nature, isn't it? I know that sunny bright photos are considered to be more attractive, but I don't make any difference :) These two diagonal lines created by the fence lead the look right to the house! Very well chosen POV :)
Best regards,
Elena

Hello Bev!
Fantastic architecture photo, fantastic "blending" of nature and architecture, to be more exact! Excellent framing and composition, impressive perspective, the use of the fence as a "lead in" line is for the textbooks and seminars! Great light managment, too! Congratulations!

Hi Beverley,
you have excellently realized the graphical potential of the way leading up to this interesting house. I also like the moody colors and I do not care about sunshine. The weather was fair enough to give you a nice light for this rural place that I like a lot. TFS!
Warm regards

Very nice use of the line of fence and path to draw the viewer into this image, Bev. I think shooting this on a cloudy day, too, helps to emphasize the subject. One of the perks of living in a country with a thousand years and more of history is to see ancient landscapes such as these. While I suspect the structure is not extremely ancient (and that's only a guess), I'd be curious to know how old it is.
TFS,
Jim
