Photographer's Note

Noticed the fountain in the Town Hall Square in Leicester City Centre was turned on. It was a beautiful sunny albeit chilly day but thought I'd take advantage of the light and show off one of the bronze lions on the fountain.

What you don't see in the photo is that the fountain is a 3-tiered structure with 4 lions on the bottom tier. I decided to just focus on one lion and included the 2 women in the background. The square is a favourite spot for shoppers to sit on the benches and in the summer, people sit on the grassy areas to enjoy the fountain and the square's hustle and bustle.

The design of the fountain lies with Francis Hames (1879) and it was constructed in Paris. Apparently, a similiar copy of this is in Oporto, Portugal.

In fact the english seem to have had a long relationship with lions to symbolise their heritage and britishness. You often hear people talking about the "lions" in reference to England's football team and their football shirt badges display the infamous 3 lions. Though, the lion-like quality of the team could be open to debate...! ;)

Have added a workshop for comparison. Let me know which one you prefer. Thanks.
