Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
In the village of Giggleswick can be found this very beautiful and very distinctive parish church.
The Church of St Alkelda, (historically St Alkald), is an Anglican church.
The church is dedicated to a little-known Saxon princess (Alkelda) with connections to a religious site in Middleham, North Yorkshire. There is much speculation as to how the dedication arrived at the church in Giggleswick but no-one is actually sure.
A church is believed to have existed on the site of St Alkelda's since Saxon times, however, most of the church that stands today is largely from the 14th and 15th centuries.
It is a surprisingly large church for a small village. The church entrance was our first view as we entered the churchyard but I was unable to include the entire frontage, partly due to its size and partly due to nearby trees.
Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
This is absolutely not how I would imagine "an old Saxon church". It looks more like a manor to me. So it's really just the name that remains Saxon. Regardless of that it's a remarkable church for its design and size. You composed the photo well, as always, by using the branches to cover the grey sky and for including the compulsory Old English leaning and mossy gravestone in the foreground.
Kind regards,
Gert

Very different church edifice, not as tall as other's nor as modern churchs we normally see on the gallery, Beverley.
I can only think it was a difficult POV to show other angle upon, thus tight as you show. Yet, distinct view of its old bricks edifice.
Good afternoon,
Ike

we can see it has a medieval style, but there are different aspects too, probably an older heritage. it is ever amazing to face a so old building that survived to our days. nice job.

Hi Bev,first surprise from this village, after the total view. And the church in fact is very big considering the small village, very well preserved after a lot of hundreds and built in the typical british style,i like it! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Bev,
It seems there are still a lot of hidden gems for me to discover locally. I would just prefer the days to become a bit warmer :)
Nice composition with the fragments of tombstones framing the church entrance on one side and the tree branches on another.
Very well done.

Hello Beverly
Magnificent picture of this stylish old church, beautifully captured for a pleasing perspective leading the attention towards the imaginary junction of diagonal lines, testifying of photographic acquired experience.
Cheers

Hello Beverley,
As you have said before, this village does indeed have a special name.
Did you hear a lot of giggles when you walked around?
Fortunately, that Viking didn't have a name that anyone could take offense at today.
Under a window I spot beautiful yellow flowers and that in January.
Well framed with the leafless branches of the tree.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Bev, Interesting church that in fact doesn't look like an old church. The branches provide nice frame from above. I like the gravestones.

Hello Bev
I had to laugh at the name of the location. The tombstones are a lot more sombre though. Good sharpness and diffused light and well framed. Tfs!
