Photographer's Note

Many will know of Ailsa Crag, but perhaps not Loudon Hill.

Loudon Hill is also a volcanic plug, and rises above the surrounding landscape as Ailsa does from the sea.

Loudon Hill is the site of three important battles at different times of Scottish history, and saw William Wallace and Robert the Bruce in action. The third battle slightly further east involved the Covenanters, more of which tomorrow !

The Spirit of Scotland is a sculpture by a local artist to commemorate the lives of the two famous Scotsmen. More can be read here. WS shows more too.
