Find the Spitfire, a photo from Glasgow, Scotland

Photographer's Note

I have previously shared with you the main reason I wanted to visit the Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow, the painting 'Christ of St John of the Cross' by Salvador Dali:

But there was a second item which I was very keen to see. A real Spitfire LA198, plane similar to those which took part in the Battle of Britain. This particular copy is from 1947 which means it didnt take part in the war anymore. The plane looks a bit lost in this wide composition, but it supposedly weights 2.3 tons! I wanted to show the whole hall where the plane floats above the stuffed animals.

My parents were born before WWII, but for me the war in Europe was such a distant event that It didnt even seem real. I remember well the exposition in Auschwitz, which is visited probably by every Polish school child. It is a memorial place which is so realistically preserved that the war becomes so very real for you.

I have read a lot of stories about amazing Polish pilots fighting in the Battle of Britain. There is a recent movie, Squadron 303 which presents the story of the most successful RAF squadron made of Polish pilots:

Hence my interest in seeing one of those WWII planes so close.

Few months ago, the world has changed again. The Russian propaganda tries to manipulate the weak and uneducated minds and even the Pope spreads the lies that it is NATOs fault that Russia started the war. This is such a typical manipulative excuse look what YOU made me to do. The fact is Russia started the full-blown war, they started to kill, murder and destroy. There is no excuse. They took the history back to the previous century. So for Gods sake people please dont ever forget it! Dont try to justify it! Nothing justifies it.

Just wondered why the old plane hang on the main hall above animals...
My humor here. A good high POV to the main hall and managed fairlywell with the indoor's illumination while outside light was prevailing.

Hello Mariusz,
It is an excellent and very clear photo of the large museum courtyard. I really like the warm colours under the silvery roof and the symmetry of the grand architecture. There are a lot of items on display here and the combination of the animals and the spitfire is surprising.

Ciao Mariusz,I happened to see Russian TV broadcasts and it's really amazing to hear the things they say and how people can believe these lies .. hehe .. unfortunately the war continues and there is no way out. Nice photo from inside the museum, it was not difficult to find the plane but also the opportunity to show everything else in a perhaps too confusing mix. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Mariusz,

The Spitfire is not obvious at first, even though it is in the centre of the photo. It also looks a bit out of place among all the stuffed animals. You chose a good point of view to show this gallery - it gives a pleasing symmetry to the photo.

It is surprising to see a Spitfire in art gallery. All those animals are surprising objects too. This place looks just great and you PoV giving a symmetric view is just right.

Hello Mariusz, an excellent viewpoint which shows a good variety of the exhibits in this large hall. The depth of field and sharp quality are excellent too.
I like the symmetry that you have achieved.
Am I correct in thinking that Tyro posted some shots from here a few years ago?

Lula said the war begun because ukrania wanted to enter in the Nato. bolsonaro says the war ins't a problem of him. these will be our new presidents.
I remember this big hall, there was a many playing organ there or in a similar hall.

Ladnie pokazane wnetrze z kultowym samolotem, ktory mial duze znaczenie w wygranej bitwie o Anglie. Oczywiscie samoloty same nie lataly i wklad naszych pilotow byl w tym nie do pominiecia, a my to dobrze znamy chociazby ze szkolnej lektury Fiedlera ( ciekawe czy jeszcze jest ta pozycja w kanonie lektur szkolnych)

Odd seeing a Spitfire in an Art Gallery but it helps make use of that grand area along with lots of stuffed animals, another unusual art gallery display. A well taken photo of the interior.

Hello Mariusz,
The interior of the building looks very beautiful and it is probably a very interesting museum.
But the Spitfire seems to hang there like a huge fan. It seems a bit misplaced to me.
The interior photo is of very good quality in which both the different animals and the beautiful architecture are well presented.
In addition, the lamps give off star-shaped lights.
