Photographer's Note
Head on shot of a male Emperor dragonfly. For this REpost I went back to the original picture to see how far it would reasonabley enlarge. so this is what happened.
Hard-crop At 28.22 X 28.22 X600dpi.
Adjust saturation +5
Brightness +4 and Contrast +14
then Dodge [email protected] 36% around the bottom jaw line to lighten it a bit.
Burn tool applied to the antnae at 46%
Select face area withlasso tool and then use quick mask to harden up the selection & use unsharp mask to this area only.
Inverse selection and use to protect face area while applying blur tool to top and sides to help the head stand out.
reduce file size back down to 193.7K at72dpi X28.22 X28.22cm.
Yet another mini dragon from the nursery pond this time a Head on view of the beast giving a lovley view of all that eye right round the top and side of the face. IMO the metalic green of the face are just amazing. this was shot early in the morning while it was still cool and he was not up to speed, and was prepared to sit and warm him self there.
Have cropped the pic down to focus the attension on the face that and a slight unsharp mask to finish with is all it got.
I have posted another vertion in the work shop

Increasingly impressive and which color. but I think finally that from time to time the finger would have to be removed. But it is super good made nevertheless.

Very beautiful composition and "expressive" portrait of the dragonfly. The colors are harmonious with these pretty tone of green. Work in WS is quite detailed. I allow myself to ask you this question: How did you do to attract the insect on your finger ?

Perfect closeup, looking him right in the eyes, just at the bottem of the picture that looks like the tip of a finger disturbs a bit. Other then that it is really nice!!

Wow, missed this one first time round, great shot I love the colours and you managed to tease out enough details. Good work Rob.

Very useful postprocessing workflow Rob, and evidently, upfront and very personal with the dragonfly. How ever did you manage to get the dragonfly to model and perch on your finger anyway? The avionic industry would love this closeup.
