Photographer's Note
The Scottish border is about 45km away in a direct line so these haven't strayed very far. There are several herds in Cumbria because these sturdy beasts withstand the rain, wind and snow with ease. The Newlands Valley. The foreground was in very deep shadow so shadow/highlights, levels and curves all were used to selectively lighten the dark area.

Hi, I love highland cattle and as you say there are lots in Cumbria, we have some near us. A really good composition, the view of the valley and mountais gives good depth. Regards, Jean

Hi, Vic. These are the cutest creatures on earth. The depth in this photo is just mind boggling. I love the differing shades of green and brown. My grandson has advised me I should give you two points for this one, so here they are. All the best!!

hello Vic,
excellent composition, colours and sharpness. it has the quality of a painting...almost Pre-Raphaelite in the amount of fine detail.

hello vic
a very good pp done here. the clouds shadow on background hill give relief to the image. And these scottish cows are very nice. We have also some of them in Jura!. They have been used to reconstutute the auroch race.
Best regards

"I don't believe it", they have got further south than York! Its an invasion. Come to think of it they are in London too, in the house of Commons, loads of them. I wonder if we are allowed to be in their parliment?
Strange how things turn out.
A lovely rural scene that seems to be fast disappearing in the south

Using that cow for foreground interest really makes this shot, the scenery to the rear is wonderful and so sharp but the cow steal it for me ..

Excellent compo and colors, great framing. I like that wild landscape and the impressive brown animals, with their long horns. Very picturesque.

Bonjour Vic,

Great capture. Amazing how the beast is so well placed. (Maybe you have an inflatable Scottish cow in the boot of your car to be used on occasions like this?).The lighting is interesting. It looks almost like a HDR. Wonderful countryside. I really got to get up there soon.
