Medieval Castle
Limassol Medieval Castle is situated in the center of the town near the old port. The castle was built in the 13th century on the site of an earlier Byzantine castle and has been converted today into a museum. It is the town's most popular attraction because according to fame the castle stands on the site where Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre and crowned her Queen of England in 1191. Cells in the basement were used as prison until 1950. The Cyprus Medieval Museum is now housed there.

On the right side of the picture is the Grand Mosque also known as the Kepir Mosque nestled in the city's Turkish quarter. Back in time, Limassols population was a mixture of both Greek and Turkish Cypriots. In 1974 when the war broke the Turkish Cypriots moved to the north part of the island. However numerous returned to Limassol and settled int the Turkish quarter in the 1990s. The mosque is a symbol of the cultural diversity that exists on the island. The Kepir Mosque was built during the Ottoman Period. Currently the mosque is still in operation and is visited by Muslims who reside in Limassol.

Hello Zbigniew,

Hopefully, aggression has ceased between the two factions and are living peaceably together.

This is a nicely angles photograph, the sea creating a strong f/g triangle, whilst the beach makes a natural guide to the strong walls of the castle.
It does look to be in excellent repair and will work well as a museum.
The minaret of the mosque adds a difference in both height and style.

Hello Zbigniew, a very informative note to accompany this interesting picture.
The castle and the mosque look to be in excellent condition.
I am surprised at how close the castle is to the sea.

Przed epidemia koronawirusa byłem na Cyprze, ale w Pafos, to bardzo ciekawy kraj ale niestety nie byłem w Limassol, bardzo ladne zdjecie przy pieknej pogodzie, ciekawy zamek, och jest tyle miejsc gdzie jeszcze chcialbym byc :)
