Petra Rock Arch, a photo from Maan, South

Photographer's Note

I am not sure exactly where this was in Petra but it seems to be in the general area of the end of the Royal Tombs built into the cliffside opposite the Treasury & antique theatre on the left facing downhill. I have loaded a workshop showing a wide angled view from a slightly different angle. The path to the 'Great Temple' and monastery is at left and has a few tiny people for scale.

A google image search using "rock / stone arch Petra" was fruitless. It seems that I sometimes see things that package tourists miss! Reminded me of Utah and Wadi Rum, also in Jordan, or even the Red Centre of Australia.

The formation of the arch and desert colors of the menmade carved rocks that contrast the beautiful blue sky, made this such an attractive sight.

Hello Chris,
I can't recall seeing this arch, even though I was on my own, keeping a safe distance to all groups.;-) There were many rock formations with an artistic appearance in Petra, and this is obviously one of them. The colours are well saturated under the bright sky.

Hello Chris, thank you for the workshop picture giving us a better idea of the scale of the Rock Arch.
It is an incredible piece of rock.
The light was in your favour so that we can see the colour and textures of the rock.
The perfect blue sky for a background.

Hello Chris,

The w/s shows a view of the location of this 'doorway' in the stone cliff which I enjoyed, too.
The details are pin sharp, the sunlight and shadows creating a very 3D effect.

Hello Chris, With these red rocks and thin arch it looks like a picture taken Utah or Arches National Park. Fantastic with the blue sky behind it. but I am not surprised, I also saw an arch in Petra - see here: https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Middle_East/Jordan/South/Maan//photo1369243.htm.
The Picture in Workshop is less surprising. Best regards MAlgo

Hi Chris,
from the places you mentioned I have seen only Utah. Indeed that would be my first guess without knowing the location.
Very interesting rock formation, like in the Arches NP.
Nice composition too with attractive well saturated colors. Orange rocks go so well with the blue sky.

I remember a similar rock structure in california, but I guess this one is larger. excellent view including the wild plant and its flowers.
