Photographer's Note
I was once visiting Deniz's gallery when I found a picture titled Shelves of Holiness
I loved that close up on Quran's...the richness of details...
I tried a similar shot....nation was the same (Syria)...but a different location (Aleppo instead of Damascus)....but I went my own way in the end.
I went for a more detached POV to include a person in the composiotion....I don't know why....but this time I didn't feel like converting this shot into black and white.
Maybe the technicolor version is more..."alive"
Another shot for my theme Devotion

Ciao Silvio!
Great daily life scene, great capture of this sacred place and great capture of the devotion of this man, even if we don't see his face, or probably, exactly we don't see his face. Great inclusion of the shelves with the holy books in a great frame and composition. Congratulations!

Hi Silvio, Why should be it black-and-white? interesting composition of the holy books and a person. I once bought a book like these, very similar, and was convinced it was Quran. I could not read it of course, but I just wanted to have it. But then I looked at it more carefully and I realized it was Green Book by Kadafi.

Ciao Silvio,

Buona sera Silvio Grande,

sister photos indeed. and if i had the luck to involve a praying man in the compo, i would definitely do it, just like you did here. the books look like having a flash light on them, despite the info says that you did not use flash. i would say that i prefer a warmer palette of colors on the books, instead of some traces of white light. the compo is quite aesthetic.
best rgs,
deniz
how did you like Syria? fantastic isn't it? and you lucky man, had the chance to visit palmyra as well. i couldn't visit it, alas...

Hi Silvio, i guess the color ings out the richness and beauty of the Koran bindings, interesting find also with the arabic label which i am trying to decipher in my own mind. I guess inclusion of the kneeling person shows the conenction to the holy book and says something about the place...i wonder if this area of Syria is affected from the civil disturbance going on now
