Kizkalesi is a small town on the Mediterranean Sea, in the Mersin Province. It is named after the castle built on a small island facing the coast, and the word means "Maiden's Castle".

According to the legend, a prophecy said that the King's daughter would have died from a snake bite, so the King built this castle on the island for her to live in safety. Unluckily, a viper one day sneaked into a basket of fruits that the King had sent to her, and eventually killed the girl.

The castle literally seems to float above the waves, and as you can see in the picture fishermen often try their luck in these shallow waters.
