The Keeping Room, a photo from Istanbul, Marmara

Photographer's Note

As we were escorted to the hall where the concert would be held, we passed through corridors and rooms. All the doors were open, so I was able to take quick photos of different parts of the mansion. Today and tomorrow, I will upload whatever I could get in a quick run-through-the-mansion. They are not the best photos in my gallery, in high ISO since I did not want to use a flash or could not stop and steady the camera, but they will give and idea of what the interior looks like.

This is the room off of the kitchen. In the U.S., such a room is called the keeping room. The name for such a room originated in colonial times. It was a multi-use room attached to the kitchen or open to it, complete with a fireplace for coziness and warmth. I am not sure what they call it in Turkish, but since the function seems to be the same, I will call it a keeping room. In the workshop, there are photos of the kitchen and the bathroom.

Bekleme Odası

Konserin düzenleneceği salona gösterilirken, koridorlardan ve odalardan geçtik. Tüm kapılar açıktı, bu yüzden yalının farklı bölümlerinin çabucak fotoğraflarını çekebildim. Bugün ve yarın, yalıdan hızla geçerken çekebildiklerimi yükleyeceğim. Bir flaş kullanmak istemediğimden ve fotoğraf makinasını sabit tutmak için duramadığımdan yüksek ISO değerinde ve bunlar galerimdeki en iyi fotoğraflar değiller, ancak iç mekanın neye benzediğine dair fikir verecekler.

Bu mutfağa açılan oda. ABD'de böyle bir odaya bekleme odası adı verilir. Böyle bir odanın adı sömürge dönemlerden geliyor. Mutfağa bağlı ya da açık olan çok kullanışlı bir odaydı, konfor ve sıcaklık için bir şömine ile tamamlanırdı. Türkçe'de ne dediklerinden emin değilim, ancak işlevi aynı gibi gözüktüğü için, ona bekletme odası diyeceğim. Çalıştayda mutfak ve banyo fotoğrafları var.

A POV well selected within this small room, not allow a wider scope - but details are attractive on the photo, Murat.
However, a bit too "grainy" image, probably a high ISO number.
The WS's are well showing the place.

Merci de nous faire profiter de votre visite pour découvrir un intérieur d'un habitat.
C'est intéressant de constater que l'on retrouver certains objets traditionnels du Pays.

Hello Murat,
In the UK it would be called a snug, a term that can be used in respect of both public houses or private homes, somewhere warm and cosy to relax. The image is evidently grainy but that contributes to the mood in my opinion.

There are pictures that are beautiful, but not interesting and there are picture that are interesting because they show something that is worth to be seen and then the highest technical quality isnt the highest priority. I like this post.

A good capture of this room, the lighting was difficult, but you did a really good job. I like the contrast of the warm tones of the tables and chairs and the white walls.

This is a nice museum room, to show the traditions.
I wondered if it was the servants who used this keeping room ?
Nice array of coppers on the walls and of different kitchen tools on the shelf in the fireplace.
Not bad at all considering the low light.

Magnificent image of this corner so nice and cozy, an ideal place to eat or just be together, next to the fire that could ignite in the large fireplace, many objects of decoration in copper.
Colorful, sharpness and brightness are captured excellently.
