Photographer's Note
To get a good vantage point over Sayon I scrambled up the side of Wadi Hadramawt. This shows the view over the town and down the wadi, which is deep valley carved from the surrounding barren plain by seasonal flooding. Most of the houses are made from mud brick. There is enough water beneath the valley to support agriculture, primarily dates, but also wheat and millet. The WS shows the view looking into one of the corners of the wadi.
