Photographer's Note
Our family visited some friends in Peterborough, Ontario, which is a smaller city about an hour's drive north of Toronto. While in the town, we could not resist a visit down Stewart Street, and the house where my husband, John, lived part of his childhood. Most of the homes near the center of Peterborough are built in a similar style to this, but unlike the modern subdivisions, each house was built to be noticably different from its neighbours.
I liked the "old" (1960's-1970's) feel to the neighbourhood, with it's skinny houses, gravel driveways, and high wires for electricity and phone. That's why I turned this one into black and white. (Sepia would have been a little too old for the era that my husband grew up in. - grin) I thought the perspective distortion worked well for an older photo too. Pity about that little car on the right.
Comments and critiques always welcome.

Hello Michelle,
Une bonne composition en noir et blanc qui donne un air rétro a ces maisons en bois.

Hi Michele,
Really nice street view. I really like the old time feeling given by the architecture and the black and white.
I like the fact that older houses feel less plastic and more individual. ANother plus is that they are closer to the sidewalk, and thus the street layout lends itself more to walking than in the new subdivisions which constrain people to their cars, thus making us use more gas, and fomenting obesity. I hope that newer suburban developments will start looking back for isnpiration to free us from the dictatoship of the car. Sadly the trend does not seem positive not in US, Canada or France.
Regards
Daniel

Hi Michelle. I'm revisiting this one :) It has a nice nostalgic feel, especially when viewed in conjunction with reading your note. The b&w is very appropriate and I like your title - we have Bette Midler's great upbeat version on cd. I hope all is well with you and your family.
