Photographer's Note
In starting our spring field work yesterday,we were hit by a sudden snow squall which blanketed the land with a powdering of white contrast against the rich darkness of the freshly tilled soil.
Amazing as it may seem, this was taken in the early morning and by late afternoon after a sunny and windy day the soil was dry enough to allow dust to be picked up on the surface by the wind.
If all goes according to plan, this particular field will be planted within a week once the soil warms up under the sun.
The photo may appear quite blurry because of shooting through my dirty tractor window:-)
I hope to be able to present a series on this year's spring planting theme. The first one was posted yesterday.

How many chances have we to be able to take such a shot, throught a tractor window - zero in my case! so I appreciate it and I do find the contrast between the dark rich soil and the white quite interesting. I don't mind the dirty tractor window and I even like to see the windshield wipe making a clean line at the bottom. Very good angle of shot IMO, with the diagonal lines and including the little slope and silos in the background.

A fine depth given by the foreground tractor details and the background silos. You are turning the world into a nice graphic pattern too. Makes me think of an old song about a boy who took his crayons to paint the whole world to make his mother happy again. A hit here some 40 years ago.

Hi Derek, I much enjoy your theme, with this photo being my favourite. It seems like the western culture daily life is underrepresented here on TE, with the rural aspect of it almost non existent, so I am really glad you took upon yourself to present the theme to us. I think I like this photo the most because of the POV, the drops of rain on the windshield, the cold atmosphere with birds flying around, it just makes me feel like I am there. You may not now that our fellow Canuck Larry Towell (magnum member) is working on his newest project where he will basically artistically document the life on his farm. I am looking forward to it, thought you may like it too.
