Photographer's Note
Well we had a sunny day today which allowed us to begin our spring seeding. Hard to believe but we had snow in this same field just two days ago.
This particular field is being seeded with a combination of alfalfa, timothy grass, brome grass and oats.
The alfalfa is the main source of forage protein for hay crops while the grasses provide fibre for a balanced dairy cattle diet. The oats are added as a "nurse crop"...in other words the oats grow faster to provide sheltered protection for the smaller hay sprouts.
This is an old drill seeder which still works very well depsite its age.A roller is pulled behind to pack the seedbed.
Notice how this tractor requires no driver:-)

Derek...As I think you know, I'm an affectionato (sp) for all things farming. I like this shot of the unpiloted farm tractor (UFT..kinda like a UAV). I like the earthy somewhat muted colors here and the softness adds a somewhat surreal, yet natural feeling to the image. The tilted horizon bothers me a bit, but does add a sense of surrealism.. sorta another world.
I liked your notes too.. you farmers are smart fellers...:)

This is such an informative series for us city people. Nicely done composition, and colors, though they might be a bit washed out in that sunny daylight. I might have been tempted to sharpen this a bit, to show off the field birds too.

Beautiful Derek. A very nice scene of rural life with nice soft coors. Here in Luxemburg farming also went into superior gear. Tractors everywhere, seeding, ploughing until late into the evening, a real pleasure for the eye. Cattle is out in the meadows and haying is only a couple of weeks away.

Very interesting note!
Also like the photo very much because it's uncommon to see this type of daily life photos. I guess there aren't many people connected to agriculture these days so it's nice to get this type of information and images.
Excelent colors, compositio and details. maybe a bit too sharp.
