Photographer's Note
About the location: This is the world famous Lake Louise in Banff National Park, Canada. This lake has a spectacular turquoise color caused by glacial dust suspended in the water. This fine dust is ground off the mountain rocks by the glaciers.
About the photo: This photo has the exact same composition as this photo, but this one was taken the day before. The sky was completely overcast for this shot while the other has clear skies.
Taken at sunrise.
Scanned with Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED.
Levels adjusted in Photoshop.

Ideal climatic conditions to create a mysterious environment. Superb composition also. Excellent.

The composition & viewpoint are perfect here, I really like how you used the 'portrait' framing which then gives us either side of the valley converging in the distance. The low clouds make the whole scene even more imposing. colours & sharpness are excellent too.

Looks a lot like Lake Marian (maybe sisters???) in Southern New Zealand to me. Reminds me I could post a photo of it... Your compo makes it appear 3d! Really lovely...

Very 'Adam Burton', and I mean this as a compliment. Great composition Ryan, the color palette make this image very appealing and soothing. Thanks for sharing,

Ah - thought it looked familiar (and I gave your other photo of this composition two points too!)
Terrific colours. About the only suggestion that might improve the image would be a ND filter and long exposure to smooth out the water completely.
Lovely spot - well captured and thanks for sharing it!

Quite possibly, the best photo of Lake Louise I've ever seen (including those in numerous albums designated to the beauty of Canadian Rockies).
Unreal view of a very real wonder of nature.
Thanks Ryan. It's been a pleasure to visit your site.

I don't have too much to say about this one, Ryan, it is just beautiful, a real paradise...
It is good to have the possibility to be in Mem Martins and then here, isn't it? :-)

Wow, What can I add to this. Simply beautiful. It's funny to see that with an exact similar framing, a pic' could look totally different from one day to another (even from an hour to an other). I like the coldness, the neutral tone and the fog that creates sort of a misterious atmosphere. Well done. TFS ;o)

hi Ryan,
you shot beautiful landscapes..and this green of velvia really comes out of pages..good quality of scans are very relieving as we do not need to imagine the originals..to transfer analog on digital medium is really a pain, and you did that very good too...
I love the tranquility in this photo..and congratulations for all your photos..

Very nice. I really like some of your work. Very well done. I'm going to post workshop with a couple of minor editing changes...mostly sharpening & color. But this is really nice.

This is my favourite of your "basic composition" list. I guess I prefer it because of the weather, I like non-postcard-blue skies. Also being that close to the foreground rocks gives the image a lot of depth.

Hi Ryan
THis is a lovely photo which has captured the atmosphere of Lake Louise. I think the colour of the lake is quite brilliant as is the composition. There are two things you may want to think about in this photo and that is - the photo is slightly flat to look at , and I think the rocks are a touch soft.
